Rebels might land ex-Palo Verde standout
UNLV already landed Jarrell Harrison once. The Rebels are spending this weekend trying to get him again.
Harrison signed with the Rebels as a quarterback in 2005 but failed to qualify academically. He then went to City College of San Francisco, switched to safety and became a top recruit.
The former Palo Verde High School star said he will decide Monday or Tuesday, probably between UNLV and North Carolina State, though Missouri is in the running.
"UNLV is a good school to go to," Harrison said. "They're on the rise, they have the talent, and I respect the coaches."
Harrison plans to announce his decision Wednesday when the early signing period begins. That would allow him to enroll in January and go through spring practices.
Rivals.com lists Harrison (6 feet 2 inches, 210 pounds) as a three-star prospect. He led Palo Verde to the Class 4A state title as a senior, was named Southern Nevada Offensive Player of the Year and chose UNLV over Oregon State.
Five other players also are visiting UNLV, including two who already committed -- Bishop Gorman High defensive back Charles Childers (6-0, 181) and Baltimore Dunbar High defensive end Horace Miller (6-1, 210).
The other three visiting players are linebacker Jordan Barrett (6-2, 225) of Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks, Calif.; defensive back Courtney Bridget (6-3, 182) of Dunbar; and safety John Therrell (6-2, 175) of Gorman.
Barrett is a Scout.com and Rivals.com three-star prospect. Scout.com rates him as the nation's No. 14 strong-side linebacker, and Rivals.com ranks him as the No. 45 inside linebacker.
Bridget is a Scout.com two-star prospect and the nation's No. 91 cornerback.
Therrell is the son of UNLV defensive coordinator Dennis Therrell. He and Childers will play in the Offense-Defense All American Bowl on Jan. 2 in Myrtle Beach. S.C.
