Rebels receive committment from three-star WR

Marquis Thompson, a Rivals.com three-star wide receiver at Los Angeles' Crenshaw High School, has committed to play football at UNLV and will receive a scholarship beginning next season.

"I'm excited because no one wanted to pick me up," Thompson said. "UNLV was the only one that believed in my talent."

He was available after qualifying late. Thompson said by the time he received the necessary score on the American College Test schools such as Oregon, UCLA and Northwestern had pulled out.

"Once I qualified, UNLV was on me right away," he said.

Thompson (5 feet 10 inches, 170 pounds) caught 35 passes for 655 yards and nine touchdowns last season in helping lead Crenshaw to its second consecutive Los Angeles City Section championship. He had made the switch to receiver from quarterback before the season.

"That's what I wanted to do to win the city championship," Thompson said.
