UNLV football picks up three new commitments, quarterback was Colorado pledge

UNLV's football team picked up three new commitments, including one from a quarterback who previously pledged to play at Colorado.

Nick Sherry (6 feet 5 inches, 210 pounds) had his scholarship offer pulled after a coaching change at Colorado, and the Rebels showed immediate interest.

"UNLV was one of the first schools to contact me," he said. "They showed me the most love, and I fell in love with the coaches."

Sherry said he chose the Rebels over Idaho and San Jose State, and Wisconsin and Arizona also were interested. Rivals.com rates him a three-star prospect, and Scout.com gives him two stars and ranks Sherry as the nation's No. 102 quarterback.

He passed for 2,623 yards and 25 touchdowns, with six interceptions, last season at Casa Grande High School in Petaluma, Calif.

Safety Brandon Baker (6-2, 180) of Lancaster (Texas) High School and kicker/punter Chase Lansford (6-3, 195) of Santa Ana (Calif.) College also committed to the Rebels. Baker confirmed his commitment in a phone interview, and Lansford's father e-mailed to say his son chose UNLV.
