UNLV gets bigger lead on Sacramento State
SLOWLY PULLING AWAY
The fourth quarter is under way and UNLV is in command with a 17-3 lead over Sacramento State in the Rebels’ season opener at Sam Boyd Stadium.
QB Omar Clayton engineered a touchdown drive in the third quarter that was nearly identical to his first-quarter score. He set up the run with a couple of pass completions to Ryan Wolfe and Phillip Payne and Channing Trotter did the rest, finishing the drive with a 1-yard scoring run for his second TD of the night.
UNLV’s defense continues to keep the Hornets’ run game in check and the Rebels got a sack from Starr Fuimaono in the third quarter to cut short a Sac State drive.
GOOD CROWD
The announced crowd for the opener was 22,195, and it looked as though there were enough warm bodies throughout the stands to where you could almost believe it.
WIND DIES DOWN
Finally, the wind has stopped gusting and it’s allowing Clayton to throw the ball a little more effectively. It had been gusting at 32 mph at kickoff.
