UNLV leads against Colorado State at the half
November 7, 2009 - 8:35 pm
UNLV used a lightning-quick offensive series to answer a Colorado State touchdown late in the first half to take a 14-7 halftime lead tonight.
The Rebels went 72 yards in just 49 seconds, scoring on quarterback Omar Clayton's 13-yard pass to wide receiver Jerriman Robinson with 54 seconds left.
Colorado State had tied the game on running back John Mosure's 1-yard touchdown run.
UNLV first went ahead 35 seconds into the second quarter on Clayton's 28-yard run.
HOT START
Clayton is 8 of 9 for 101 yards. He also leads the Rebels in rushing with 27 yards.
Which makes the decision to replace him with backup Mike Clausen for a series in the second quarter even more curious.
Clayton had just finished leading a touchdown drive, finishing it with that big run, when Clausen went for three runs on the next series. The result was a loss of 2 yards as well as the momentum.
ODDITY
The Rebels have outgained Colorado State 169 yards to 163 despite the Rams dominating time of possession, holding the ball for 19:27.
