UNLV may have to start without two starters in Saturday’s game

UNLV might be down two starters when Oregon State visits Sam Boyd Stadium at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Wide receiver Rodelin Anthony (sprained right foot) and defensive end/linebacker Jason Beauchamp (sprained right ankle) could miss the football game. Both had boots on.

Coach Mike Sanford said today the decision on Beauchamp could go up to game day. If he plays, it most likely will be just one position, and Sanford said he couldn't hazard a guess which one.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

Coaches awarded the players of the game in Saturday's 38-3 victory over Sacramento State to tailback Channing Trotter (offense), linebacker Starr Fuimaono (defense) and Nate Carter (special teams).

Trotter rushed for 102 yards and three 1-yard touchdowns in his first career start. Fuimaono recorded 11 tackles, including a sack, in his first action since the second game of last season, when he injured his left knee.

As for special teams, Sanford not only singled out Carter, but said B.J. Bell made quite an impression.

NEW FACES

Though tailback Bradley Randle and cornerback Courtney Bridget didn't play, Sanford didn't rule out playing either freshman at some point instead of redshirting them. Sanford indicated, in fact, Randle would play eventually.

As for players who played significant minutes for the first time and stood out, Sanford pointed to redshirt freshman guard Sean Tesoro, sophomore cornerback Deante Purvis, sophomore tight end Kyle Watkins, freshman wide receiver Mark Barefield and freshman tight end Jordan Barrett.
