UNLV roundup: Ballou powers women’s soccer team to rout of Fresno State

Freshman Katie Ballou scored two first-half goals to help UNLV rout Fresno State in a Mountain West women’s soccer match Sunday at Johann Memorial Field.

Lily Sender scored her team-best sixth goal of the season on fellow senior Susie Bernal’s team-high fifth assist to open the scoring for the Rebels (8-3, 1-1), who had a 21-12 edge in shots.

Sophie Cortes scored in the final minute for UNLV, and Rebels goalkeeper Jordan Sallee had four saves.

Myra Delgadillo scored her fifth goal of the season in the 80th minute for the Bulldogs (5-5, 0-2).

* WOMEN’S TENNIS: At Fertitta Tennis Complex, Carol Yang won the Flight Two singles title to highlight the Rebels’ showing on the final day of the three-day, season-opening UNLV Invitational. Also for UNLV, Jovana Kenic placed first in Flight Five singles, Paola Artiga took the consolation crown in Flight Three singles, Yang and Aiwen Zhu took third in Flight One doubles, and Artiga and Kenic won in Flight Three doubles. The tournament featured competitors from Southern California, Long Beach State, South Alabama, Northern Arizona and Fresno State.
