UNLV roundup: Volleyball team wins twice, sets standard with 8-0 start

The UNLV volleyball team posted two 3-1 wins Friday in the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tournament to set a program record for most consecutive victories to open a season with eight.

Bree Hammel had 16 kills and 23 digs to rally the Rebels to a 15-25, 27-25, 25-17, 25-23 win over Texas-Arlington in UNLV’s second match of the day.

Alexis Patterson had 44 assists and 14 digs in the Rebels’ 25-18, 25-16, 23-25, 25-17 triumph over the host Islanders in a morning match.

UNLV’s previous best start to a season was 7-0 in 1999.

* MEN’S SOCCER: At Stockton, Calif., Tyson Fox scored two goals, including the go-ahead tally in the 54th minute, leading Pacific (3-2) to a 4-2 victory over UNLV (2-3). Memo Diaz and Timo Mehlich scored for the Rebels, who were outshot 15-6.
