UNLV senior defensive backs Jocquez Kalili and Ty’Jason Roberts were put on scholarship Thursday by UNLV football coach Tony Sanchez. They will count against the 2019 recruiting class.

Mark Anderson has been at the Review-Journal since January 1999. UNLV is coming off a championship in the Mountain West indoor meet. The Rebels are one of the favorites heading into this week’s outdoor meet in Clovis, California.
Former Bishop Gorman four-star cornerback Alex Perry is transferring from Arizona State to play football at UNLV, a source said Monday. Perry played in four games as an incoming freshman last season and didn’t record any statistics.
Warren LeGarie, who runs the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, said he wasn’t concerned about a new event in Sacramento, California. Las Vegas will have all 30 teams this year for the first time.
UNLV dropped to fifth place in the Mountain West after Sunday’s 10-8 loss to San Jose State. The top four baseball teams make the conference tournament.
UNLV hired Eric Nepomuceno to be in charge of compliance for the athletic department. Athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois also has restructured the compliance office, so Nepomuceno will report to her as well as the president’s office.
UNLV will play Valparaiso in the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Challenge on Nov. 28 at the Thomas & Mack Center. This is the final season of the four-year contract between the conferences.
UNLV will be the fourth seed at the NCAA men’s golf regional tournament May 14 to 16 at Ohio State. The Rebels won the regional last season at Purdue.
The Las Vegas Bowl will be Saturday, Dec. 15 at 12:30 p.m. and will be televised on ABC. It’s the seventh consecutive year the game, which will be at Sam Boyd Stadium, will be on a Saturday and the sixth year in a row on ABC.
Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, a 6-foot 8-inch forward from Cameroon, committed to UNLV. He is a product of the NBA Global Academy.
Former UNLV center Brandon McCoy has been invited to the NBA draft combine on May 16-20 in Chicago. The draft is June 21.
Former UNLV quarterback Johnny Stanton has been invited to the Minnesota Vikings’ rookie minicamp, which is this weekend.
Three more players with local ties signed NFL contracts as undrafted free agents. Four players have signed overall, and two others were drafted.
Tyrell Crosby, an offensive tackle from Oregon and Green Valley High School, was drafted in the fifth round Saturday by the Detroit Lions. He was projected to go as high as the second round.
Guard Will Hernandez, who went to Chaparral High School and Texas-El Paso, was taken with the second pick of the second round Friday by the New York Giants.
