Mark Anderson has been at the Review-Journal since January 1999. He covered UNLV football for 17 seasons before moving to the men’s basketball beat in January 2016, and was president of the Football Writers Association of America in 2016. Before coming to the R-J, he covered UNR football for five seasons at the Reno Gazette-Journal and was the high school sports reporter for the Tallahassee (Fla.) Democrat from 1988-94. UNLV senior wide receiver Kendal Keys will undergo surgery this week on his right ankle and leg. Coach Tony Sanchez said Keys will be out for three months.
The Mountain West is sending multiple teams to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015. Regular-season champion UNR was chosen as a seventh seed and Mountain West tourney champ San Diego State as a No. 11.
