The Rebels shot 22 over in Friday’s first round at Fayetteville, Arkansas. The team has two days of stroke play remaining to make the top 15 for Monday’s final round of stroke play.
UNLV signed wide receiver Jacob Gasser, a transfer from Cerritos College in Norwalk, California. The Rebels have one scholarship left to offer.
Randal Grimes hopes to be eligible to play this season. UNLV has applied for a waiver for Grimes, but the NCAA has not made a decision.

The third-seeded Rebels meet No. 2 San Diego State at 2 p.m. Thursday in the double-elimination tournament in Reno. Top seed Fresno State faces No. 4 UNR at 6:30.
Marvin Coleman, who walked on last basketball season, was put on scholarship by UNLV. That is the Rebels’ last available scholarship.
The current Nebraska basketball coach promoted Otzelberger to associate head coach when he was named head coach at his alma mater, Iowa State, in 2010.
Tubby Smith returned last year to his alma mater, High Point after a stellar coaching career. He played an indirect role in influencing the recent direction of UNLV basketball.
The 6-foot-2-inch guard announced Saturday that he had chosen the Rebels over Gonzaga and Oregon. He averaged 19.7 points last season for South Dakota State.
The Rebels have timing working in their favor for their nonconference games, with a chance to pick up some nice victories that otherwise might be more difficult to achieve.
