Las Vegas’ bicycling community shed tears and shared stories in Summerlin on Saturday in remembrance of five cyclists killed in a crash on Thursday.

“When he perished, he perished on the bike,” a fellow cyclist said of Aksoy Ahmet, 48. “He went out doing what he loved.”
Las Vegas resident Tom Trauger, 57, was one of five cyclists killed Thursday in a highway crash. “We have guys all over the country that are all in mourning,” a friend said.
Gerrard Nieva, one of five cyclists killed in a highway crash near Searchlight, was described as a humble and quiet man who serviced dialysis machines for a living.
All five bicyclists were Las Vegas residents and died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Clark County coroner’s office.

Friends and family members remember Erin Ray as a competitive athlete who gave her all to every sport she tried. They also remember her positive energy and warm, supportive nature.
Nearly 20 bicyclists set out early Thursday from Henderson to complete a roughly 130-mile ride — just as the group has done each year for the past 15 years.
