Lake Mead, a manmade reservoir, supports a diverse selection of animals, including the emblem of the United States – the bald eagle. A team of wildlife biologists from several agencies, including the National Park Service, fanned out in boats for their annual survey of the national bird. The Springs Preserve debuted its new teaching garden to the public in September. Located on the southeast side of the 180-acre site, the preserve will host classes for teachers, students and the public on how to create and manage an effective garden. (Madelyn Reese/View News).
