The Vegas Golden Knights announced they have signed forward Jonathan Marchessault to a 6-year contract extension worth an average of $5 million. Marchessault has tallied a team-high 37 points this season. Marchessault ranks in the top-25 in the NHL in scoring, and his 22 assists are a career-high. Last season, Marchessault recorded his first 30-goal season with the Florida Panthers. “Since we all came here, we just feel like part of a big family and we love this city,” Marchessault said.

The hats tossed onto the ice Sunday in honor of William Karlsson’s three goals are not going to waste. The Golden Knights plan to build a permanent display featuring the headwear thrown by fans after hat tricks. Karlsson notched the first hat trick in Knights history Sunday, capping the 6-3 victory over Toronto when he dived for a loose puck and swatted it into an empty net. “I leaned against the bag and saw all the hats there, so it was a cool picture,” Karlsson said.
The Golden Knights broke several records in December while soaring to the top of the Western Conference. Vegas took 31 games to win 20, which is the fastest for an NHL expansion team in its first season. The Knights are on a 7-game winning streak, the longest for an expansion team in its first season. The Knights went 11-1-1 (23 points) in December, the most wins in a calendar month by a team in its inaugural season, according to Elias Sports Bureau. They own the best record in the Western Conference with 54 points (26-9-2). Vegas also carries the NHL’s best record at home at 16-2-1.
