The fashion show to benefit UMC’s pediatric unit was held March 22 at the Four Seasons hotel. The event was the Clark County Medical Society Alliance’s 17th annual fashion show fundraiser. They raised over $100,000 through a silent auction and ticket sales. Helpful additions to the pediatric unit will include parent care packages and treatment room additions. There were over 450 attendees who also participated in a silent auction. The fashion show featured over 25 looks provided by Diane Von Furstenburg with professional models flown in from the New York fashion house. DVF donated a portion of proceeds from the show’s online sales to UMC’s pediatric unit.
A woman in her 50s is at University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after being hit by an SUV. She was trying to cross Flamingo Road near Torrey Pines on Thursday morning when she was struck by the SUV, Las Vegas police said The driver of the SUV did not stop and police are searching for the vehicle.
A first responder and patient were killed early Tuesday morning after an ambulance rolled over on Interstate 15.
An ambulance was transporting a patient between medical facilities about 12:45 a.m. when it hydroplaned on the ramp leading from northbound I-15 to the westbound 215 Beltway. The ambulance rolled into a rocky embankment on the side of the highway.
An EMT in his 50s and a patient in his 60s were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the ambulance was hospitalized at University Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Marcus Maddox, 30, is accused of fatally stabbing his 12-year-old daughter and leaving his 15-year-old son for dead. Authorities say he then drove across the valley and attempted to kill his wife and himself. An officer climbed through a window and found Tishia Maddox face down on a bed at Siegel Suites on East Craig Road. She had a severe wound to her forehead. When police arrived, they found Marcus Maddox with a gunshot wound to his head. Officials found the couple’s children in a Budget Suites room more than 17 hours later. Marcus and Tishia Maddox and their son remain in critical condition at University Medical Center.

In response to the mass shooting on the Las Vegas Strip, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo stressed the need for blood donations The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said United Blood Service and University Medical Center are the best places to donate blood. 1. The cyclist that was struck and killed Tuesday near Red Rock Resort was Las Vegas reconstructive hand surgeon Kayvan Khiabani. Khaibani was the head of hand and microsurgery at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and chief of hand surgery at University Medical Center. His wife, Katy Barin, said her husband was a caring and confident father of two. Memorial services for Khiabani are being planned.
2.A rodent that is native to Argentina was found wandering in a parking lot Thursday. The Patagonian mara was picked up at around 3 pm near West Sahara Avenue and South Decatur Boulevard. The animal was taken to a county animal shelter and the owner is still unknown.
3. A man with multiple gunshot wounds was found meandering in a desert area in the southwest Las Vegas Valley Thursday night. Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Carlos Hank said that there is no information yet as to what happened to the man. Lt. Hank added that the man is in critical condition and is undergoing surgery.
