UNLV removed a bronze statue of Hey Reb! from campus on Tuesday night. In an email sent out to students, university President Marta Meana said “In recent conversations with the donor we mutually agreed it was best to remove the statue and return it.”

The Rebels fell just short of upsetting No. 4 San Diego State on Sunday afternoon, losing 71-67. The loss came on the same day as the tragic passing of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, as well as seven other passengers aboard the helicopter that crashed in Calabasas, California.
The Rebels were in position to upset fourth-ranked San Diego State, but they went cold and never led again, falling 71-67 before about 10,000 fans, UNLV’s largest home crowd this season.
