The single-story home, built on a .63-acre lot in 2015, measures 5,285 square feet and has a 717-square-foot casita and three-car garage. It has five bedrooms and six baths. Fleury bought the home from former NHL player and fellow Canadian Sheldon Souray, according to public records. When he signed his three-year, $25M contract extension over the summer, Fleury told the media he and his family love Las Vegas and cited its great schools and neighborhoods with a lot of things for kids to do. Drone sightings picking up in Nevada

According to data from the Federal Aviation Administration, there were 659 reported drone sightings between April and June 2017 in the U.S., three of which were in Nevada. This year, there were 784 within the same period, with 16 sightings in Nevada. These numbers keep track of all reports, but are not independently verified. The eighth annual Tarkanian Classic basketball tournament returns to Las Vegas this week. Dozens of teams will compete across 10 varsity divisions — seven boys and three girls. The event has become the top winter break tournament in the country. Teams flock from across the country to Las Vegas, and dozens of future Division I players will be competing throughout the city. Tournament host Bishop Gorman won the top division last year, and is ready to defend its championship.

Lake-loving residents of Meadview, Arizona, won’t be losing their boat launch ramp at Lake Mead after all. The National Park Service plans to build a new, low-water ramp at South Cove by 2020, if not sooner. The new South Cove ramp has been in the park’s plans since 2005, with money set aside for the work. The only other ramp close to Meadview is at Pearce Ferry, but boats can’t use it because of rapids downstream.

Chris Walach helps lead drone industry growth in Nevada

At the end of 2013, Nevada was named one of six Federal Aviation Administration drone test sites in the country, and the only one to encompass an entire state. Now, it’s home to a center of excellence that promotes public safety in the airspace and has partnered with international companies to advance autonomous systems. Both programs are managed by the Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems, which also oversees the operations of Nevada’s drone test site. Chris Walach, senior director of NIAS, leads the institute’s focus on using small businesses, research and development and technology demonstrations to advance the local drone industry. Five years after its launch, NIAS reports that it’s helped create about 200 jobs in the drone industry, and expects to create 400 to 500 more in the next year and a half. Alexander is going to study bio-medical engineering at Northwestern, thanks in part to a non-profit organization called QuestBridge that aims to send low income students to high academic universities. Alexander, a straight-A student, discovered QuestBridge while recovering from a torn ACL he sustained in the Region Championship game against Bishop Gorman. Through QuestBridge, he spent the summer studying the business of sport at Penn. He was cleared to return to the court in August, and made his season debut for the Chargers basketball team on Saturday.

Land around the Las Vegas stadium site has been selling for high prices. A few months before the stadium’s groundbreaking, Global Trust Group acquired a 2.5-acre parcel just north of the stadium site. The property sold for $7.25 million, or $2.9 million an acre. Osprey Real Estate Capital and Huntington Hotel Group acquired a 2-acre industrial site just west of the stadium site in late November. The property sold for $6.5 million, or $3.15 million per acre. That’s roughly 12 times the average price of land in the valley this year as tracked by Colliers International.

Jerry Herbst founded Terrible Herbst in 1959. The name repurposed an old slight toward Herbst’s father, Ed, who opened Martin Oil in Chicago in 1938. Since the brand’s arrival, the Terrible name has existed in the Las Vegas Valley atop gas stations, casinos and the family’s motorsports team. Some of those ventures are controlled by Jerry Herbst and others by his sons: Ed, Tim and Troy. Jerry Herbst died Nov. 27 in his home. He was 80.

Las Vegas Councilman Bob Coffin said Wednesday he will not seek re-election. Coffin, 76, decided he will not run for a third, final term. The long-time former state legislator cited a troublesome back injury. I really hope that people running for this office have some experience dealing with pressure … because it is intense. The primary election is April 2. The general election is June 11.

MGM Resorts International signed a sports betting sponsorship agreement with the NBA in July It was the first professional sports league to have official ties with a legal sports betting house. The deal came just two months after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a law prohibiting sports betting in most states. In October, MGM became the first gaming company to sign a sports betting partnership with the NHL. In November, MGM became the first gaming company to sign a sports betting partnership with the MLB. Financial terms of Tuesday’s deal and earlier partnerships have not been announced.
