NBA Summer League’s origin

NBA Summer League’s origin

The NBA Summer League has become a Las Vegas sports goldmine, pumping more than $57 million into the local economy. It started slowly — the idea was spawned at a concert featuring Phish, a jam band out of Vermont. Former Thomas & Mack Center director Daren Libonati met with a friend of NBA agent Warren LeGarie at the concert. Only a few NBA teams were on hand for the first Las Vegas Summer League. Now all 30 attend, with crowds growing every summer. And to think it all was spawned by a Phish concert.

It falls short of the 11 hours and five minutes it took for Isner to beat Nicolas Mahut at Wimbledon in 2010. Anderson will now face either Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic in Sunday’s final. The 32-year-old is the first South African man to reach the Wimbledon decider since Brian Norton in 1921.
