A Las Vegas police officer has been demoted after failing to stop the death of an unarmed black man. Now former sergeant Travis Crumrine was in charge of officer Kenneth Lopera during the death of Tashii Brown last May. Lopera shocked Brown multiple times before placing him in an unapproved chokehold. Records show that originally, department officials accused Crumrine of failing to intervene by not ensuring that Lopera let go of Brown after he gave the officer an order to do so. Ultimately, Crumrine was demoted to police officer on Nov. 1 for neglect of duty and for failing to turn on his body camera during the interaction.
CDC Warns People to Steer Clear of Romaine After E. Coli Outbreak The Center for Disease Control and Prevention told people on Friday to stay away from the lettuce after a multi-state E. coli outbreak. 53 people have been infected across 16 states, with 31 people hospitalized. No deaths have occurred yet. Symptoms of E. coli poisoning include stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. The CDC says the outbreak came from lettuce near Yuma, Arizona, warning consumers to avoid any lettuce grown in the area. Product labels often do not identify growing regions; so, throw out any romaine lettuce if you’re uncertain about where it was grown. This includes whole heads and hearts of romaine, chopped romaine, and salads and salad mixes containing romaine lettuce.
Las Vegas racer Noah Gragson predicted he was in for a “rude awakening” in his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut. Instead, he finished second at Richmond Raceway in Virginia. Gragson normally drives for fellow Las Vegan Kyle Busch in the NASCAR Truck Series. The race at Richmond was one of three in which he will compete for former Super Bowl coach Joe Gibbs. The second one is this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama, a restrictor-plate track at which Gragson has little experience. “Talladega, that one might come back in a ball or something. Bill Cosby Found Guilty on All Charges The 80-year-old actor has been convicted on three counts of aggravated indecent assault, all of which have a penalty of 10 years in prison. In 2004, Cosby drugged and raped Andrea Constand, a Temple University employee, when she went to him for career advice. Despite only being convicted for Constand’s case, multiple other women have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct. The verdict was delivered by the jury on Thursday after more than 14 hours of deliberation. This was the second trial for Constrand’s case against Cosby after the first trial ended in a mistrial when the jury could not come to a conclusion.

Crime Spree According to ‘The New York Times’, police have made an arrest in connection with a series of unsolved murders and rapes during the 1970s and 1980s. 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo was arrested on two counts of murder, according to records from the Sacramento County jail. The Golden State Killer is believed to have killed at least 12 people, raped at least 45 people and burglarized more than 120 homes between 1976 and 1986. According to CNN, no one has ever

Coronado’s baseball team rolled to a 12-2 home win over Foothill on Tuesday. The Cougars pounded out 16 hits, including seven doubles, in the six-inning win. ‘Smallville’ Actress Allison Mack Arrested in Connection to Sex Cult Mack was arrested and charged on Friday with helping to recruit people for NXIVM, an alleged self-help cult where women were branded and convinced to have sex. Prosecutors say that Mack helped to bring the women into the cult under the guise of women empowerment. NXIVM’s leader, Keith Raniere, is accused of establishing a secret sex cult and branding women, his “slaves”, with his initials. Mack is reportedly accused of receiving payment for convincing at least two women to have sex with Raniere. She was indicted on sex trafficking charges, along with the conspiracy to commit forced labor. If convicted, she faces 15 years in prison.
Toronto Attack Suspect Charged in Van Attack According to the Associated Press, 25-year-old Alek Minassian was charged with 10 counts of 1st degree murder and 13 counts of attempted murder. Minassian appeared in court Tuesday morning after mowing down and killing 10 people in a rented van Monday in downtown Toronto. 15 others were also injured in the attack. Authorities have not announced a motive. “As was indicated last night by our public security minister, at this time we have no reason to suspect that there is any national security element to this attack, but obviously the investigations continue.” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
Golden Knights fans will have to wait a little longer to show support for their team on a license plate. Officials with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles say the department has gone back-and-forth with the team for six months over the design of the plates. Once Knights submit a design, it will only take a few weeks for the DMV to manufacture, distribute and solicit sales for the plates. The plate’s Knights insignia, logos and messages may only take up roughly one-third of the specialty plates, leaving enough room for “Nevada” at the top and the license number. The plates will cost $37, followed by a $10 annual renewal fee.
Desert Oasis’ baseball team edged visiting Bishop Gorman 9-8 on Monday in a key Southwest League game. Cole Schaefer induced a double-play grounder with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth to get the top-ranked Diamondbacks out of a jam. Chaison Miklich hit a two-run homer for Desert Oasis, which won despite walking 11 batters.
