NBA Summer League’s origin

The NBA Summer League has become a Las Vegas sports goldmine, pumping more than $57 million into the local economy. It started slowly — the idea was spawned at a concert featuring Phish, a jam band out of Vermont. Former Thomas & Mack Center director Daren Libonati met with a friend of NBA agent Warren LeGarie at the concert. Only a few NBA teams were on hand for the first Las Vegas Summer League. Now all 30 attend, with crowds growing every summer. And to think it all was spawned by a Phish concert.
