CCSD kids talk sex education on ‘Daily Show’
Sex education in Las Vegas has been an ongoing discussion in the Clark County School District.
From curriculum secrecy within the system itself to parental uproar, Sin City’s effort to educate K-12 in matters of sexual health has been a rocky road.
But in the wake of the announcement of Jon Stewart’s “Daily Show” departure, the comedian highlighted the educational misteps of the city in a report by “Daily Show” correspondent Jordan Klepper.
“Besides being America’s number one pleasure dome, families actually live here — with children,” Klepper said.
Klepper sat down with a group of CCSD students and talked about their sex ed experiences.
“I didn’t have an experience in sex ed because… it wasn’t offered,” one student said.
“Yeah, but you turned out fine,” Klepper said.
“No, I actually got two women pregnant in high school,” the student replied.
Others spoke about how their schools primarily focused on abstinence-based lessons.
Author and parent Susan Patton said sex education should be left out of grade school curriculum all together, as this material should be left to the parents to deliver.
“Do they really want knowledge, or do they really want sex?” Patton asked.
“We’re not just horny teenagers. We have real questions,” one student said.

- “Is HPV transmittable through other means than sexual intercourse?
- “What are the pros and cons of different IUDs (intrauterine devices)?”
- “What are the best ways to stem the transmission of herpes?”
