Inmate, 72, dies in Northern Nevada

A Northern Nevada inmate serving time for assault on a police officer and attempted murder died Thursday, the Nevada Department of Corrections said Friday.

Steven Zambrano, 72, died in Carson City at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center's medical facility, according to a news release. He was jailed in 2006 out of Clark County.

Zambrano was serving concurrent sentences from 24 to 240 months for resisting arrest while in possession of a deadly weapon, assault of a police officer with used of a deadly weapon, attempted murder and use of a deadly weapon enhancement, the release said.

His cause of death will be determined by the Carson City coroner's office.
