Suspect in mom’s death dies after police shooting

A man Carson City police believe shot and killed his mother and was involved in a police shooting Wednesday died Friday, according to the Nevada Appeal.

Jarek Kozlowski, 28, died of respiratory failure Friday night at Renown Regional Medical Center, the Northern Nevada newspaper reported.

Two Douglas County sheriff's deputies responded to Kozlowski's Gardnerville home where police believe the man shot and killed his mother, 50-year-old Michelle Kozlowski, in the middle of the road. The shooting happened after an argument at the home the pair shared with Michelle Kozlowski's other son, Joseph, the Appeal wrote.

Jarek Kozlowski's death was not related to the gunshot wounds he suffered in the shootout with deputies, a sheriff's spokesman said.
