Updated June 7, 2022 - 12:16 pm

A pedestrian who was crossing the street while using a walker was struck by a vehicle and killed early Tuesday in a hit-and-run crash in the northern Las Vegas Valley.

Las Vegas police Lt. David Gordon said the pedestrian was struck at 2:05 a.m. by a black 2019 Chevrolet Malibu at the intersection of Las Vegas and Lamb boulevards. The 59-year-old Las Vegas man died at the scene.

Police canvassed the area and later located the vehicle involved in the crash in a parking lot of a nearby apartment complex.

“A short time later detectives took a male suspect into custody,” Gordon wrote in a text message.

Police subsequently identified the driver as Luis Gonzalez, 30, of Las Vegas. He was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on charges of DUI resulting in death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.

The name of the pedestrian was not immediately released.
