Reno man, 78, arrested in stabbing death of wife

RENO — Police have arrested a 78-year-old Reno man on suspicion of murder in the stabbing death of his wife.

Police said Daniel Pancake was booked into the Washoe County Jail on Tuesday night on a charge of open murder.

Officers responded to the Lake Ridge Apartments on the city’s southwest side about 7:30 p.m. after a child called 911 to report that his parents were fighting.

Police spokesman Tim Broadway said Wednesday they arrived within three minutes of the call and found Pancake standing in the front yard covered in blood.

The woman in her 50s was pronounced dead at the scene with several stab wounds. Her name hasn’t been released but she’s described as Pancake’s wife.

The child was released to a family member under supervision of Child Protection Services.
