Motorcyclist who died in crash identified

The motorcyclist who died after a motorist ran a stop sign Thursday has been identified as Herbert Timothy Scurry of North Las Vegas.

Scurry, 40, was driving north on Martin Luther King Boulevard when a driver in a sport utility vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign at Reverend Wilson Avenue about 3:15 p.m.

The sport utility vehicle then cut off the motorcycle, and the motorcyclist swerved to avoid it and lost control, North Las Vegas police said.

The driver then fled the scene, and police are looking for him. He is described as a light-skinned black or Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s with short hair. He might have been driving a red Mitsubishi that police described as dirty.

Scurry died at scene from blunt head trauma, the Clark County coroner's office determined. Police said he was wearing a novelty helmet, which are illegal in Nevada because they don't meet the state's safety requirements.
