More travelers use ride-hailing companies at McCarran, report says

Taxicabs picked up a majority of travelers passing through McCarran International in 2017, but ride-hailing companies Uber and Lyft are cutting into the competition, according to year-end numbers provided by the airport.

Combined, taxis, Uber and Lyft made a record-setting 5.4 million pick-ups at the Las Vegas airport last year, a 11.7 percent jump from 2016, airport officials said.

Southern Nevada’s 16 certified taxicab companies reported 3.45 million pickups at McCarran in 2017, a 9.7 percent decline from the previous year, airport officials said.

Uber and Lyft logged 1.97 million pickups at the airport last year, a 90.8 percent leap from 2016.
