EVENTS

Authors Kimberly Lewis Reinhart and Paula Jacoby-Garrett will have a discussion of their book "Best Hikes with Dogs: Las Vegas and Beyond" featuring a slide show, book signing and outdoor dog products at 2 p.m. Saturday at Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

The African American Book Event featuring authors Ernest Fountain, Theresa J. Gonsalves, Angel Washington and others will be noon-3 p.m. Saturday at Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Author and journalist Geoff Schumacher will have a reception and book signing for "Howard Hughes: Power, Paranoia & Palace Intrigue" at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Nevada State Museum, 700 Twin Lakes Drive. A panel discussion with Schumacher, Robert Maheu, Peg Crockett, Paul Winn, Gordon Margulis and moderator Lynn Zook will follow at 6:30 p.m. Reservations are required by today. "Separating the Sincere from the Sinister -- A Single Girl's Guide to Finding Mr. Right in Las Vegas," a discussion with Kenneth Erle Engel, the author of "Street Education 101," will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive. A book signing will follow.

Author Charles Bock will read from his book "Beautiful Children" at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Clark Country Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. The reading will be followed by a book signing and reception.

Lydia Malcolm Library, 2960 Sunridge Heights Parkway Suite No. 100, Henderson, will have a Chinese New Year Celebration for ages 8 to 12 at 4 p.m. Thursday. Registration is required. For more information call 263-7522.

Mornings with Mari Book Club meets at 10 a.m. the third Saturday of each month; the Best Book You've Never Read book group meets the second Sunday of the month at 7 p.m.; Our Desert Hearts book group meets at 7 p.m. the third Thursday of the month at Barnes and Noble, 8915 W. Charleston Blvd.

The Science Fiction & Fantasy Club (SNAFFU) meets at 2 p.m. the fourth Sunday of each month at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

The Amazing Reads Book Club meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd.

Whitney Library's Book Club meets at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month; at the next meeting, the group will be discussing "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen at 5175 E. Tropicana Ave.

The Brown Bag Book Club meets at 11 a.m. on the second Thursday of the month at the Laughlin Library, 2840 S. Needles Highway.
