Burgers, fries at Freddy’s, but don’t call it fast

Don't tell Curtis Veat that his Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is a fast food joint.

"We're a quick service restaurant where everything is made to order and is fresh. We don't use microwaves," says Veat, general manager and operating partner of the restaurant that opened June 29 at 9809 S. Eastern Ave. in Henderson.

The Henderson Freddy's is the first in Nevada and the 65th in the Wichita, Kan.-based chain.

"For hamburgers, we use 100 percent ground sirloin that is 85 percent fat free and our hot dogs are 100 percent Vienna beef," Veat says. "For the hot dogs, we use a split-top Coney bun and sweet pickle relish. That's what makes Freddy's take on a classic Chicago dog unique."

The custard comes in two flavors, chocolate and vanilla, and in two forms, the sundae or the concrete. The concrete is custard with toppings mixed in, rather than put on top of the dessert.

Freddy's also offers a children's menu with items such as a cheeseburger, chicken tenders, hot dog or grilled cheese ($4.49 each).

The restaurant is open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Freddy's seats 120 people, and there is a drive-thru window.

Sandwiches and hot dogs come as stand-alone items or as combos. Combos come with a medium soft drink and a choice of fries, onion rings, chili cheese fries, cheese fries or a cup of chili. Prices that follow list the single entree first and then the combo.
