Cheeburger Cheeburger promises flavor flavor

Cheeburger Cheeburger, 8390 S. Rainbow Blvd., may look like a fast food restaurant but its approach says otherwise.

"People who come in are greeted by a host or hostess and seated," says Dali Islam, who took over as co-owner of the restaurant with Jahed Ali last August. "A server takes the order and brings the food. If patrons wish, they can get takeout, but we are a full-service restaurant."

Cheeburger Cheeburger uses 100 percent natural Angus beef, Islam notes. The weights of burgers reflect the meat before it is cooked. Signs inform diners that the food is cooked in peanut oil. The large menu features specials available for a short while that may include sweet potato fries or Pacific salmon served as a burger or in a wrap.

"Here, it's all about inventing your own flavors suited to your own taste," Islam says.

For instance, there are more than 25 free burger toppings, plus others that can be added for a fee. In addition, any burger on the menu can be served as a wrap for $1 extra. There also is a salad lover's salad that offers diners a choice of ingredients.

For those with a big appetite there is the 20-ounce "Pounder" for $11.99. Patrons who are able to finish it can have their photo hung on a "Wall of Fame."

The only Las Vegas location of the national chain founded in Sanibel, Fla., the restaurant is retro-themed, with large cutouts of James Dean, the Three Stooges, Humphrey Bogart and others.

Cheeburger Cheeburger is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It seats 94 people, is available for private parties and offers catering. Islam says the restaurant also is involved in local organizations, working with schools both in fundraising and student rewards programs, and with nonprofits.
