Downtown Las Vegas has booze tastings, Beerfest this week
Men of Burlesque take stage at Artifice
The Las Vegas Men of Burlesque, or MoB, will perform Friday at Artifice in Arts Square. The show, which gets underway at 9 p.m., features eight performers, including Robert Ryan of “Puppetry of the Penis.” Admission is free with a $10-$15 donation of new men’s or women’s socks or underwear for the homeless.
Prohibition, and what was prohibited
If you want to learn the history of organized crime, you may as well start with the booze. That seems to be the theory behind Sip + Savor, a program that runs from 2-5 p.m. every Saturday in September at The Mob Museum on Stewart Avenue. For $5 above the price of museum admission, guests can take part in a presentation on Prohibition and the characteristics of gin, whiskey, rum and moonshine — and do a blind tasting. themobmuseum.org.
Golden Nugget holds annual beer festival
The eighth annual Golden Nugget Beerfest is set for 7-10 p.m. Saturday at the hotel’s Grand Event Center. Tickets are $64 in advance at goldennugget.com or $69 at the door. That includes award-winning beers paired with beer-inspired food and live entertainment.
‘Hello from Japan!’ debuts
The interactive exhibit “Hello from Japan!” opens Saturday at the Discovery Children’s Museum. To learn about life in modern Japan, guests will be transported to two distinct areas of Tokyo. Kawaii Central is a streetscape where kids can sing karaoke, smile for a photo booth camera, serve a seasonal Japanese meal, and design adorable mascots, while Shinto shrine park invites children to build a bridge, crawl through a forest and make a wish at a wishing tree. Down and Derby
The Gold Spike’s bi-monthly backyard roller derby party Down and Derby will celebrate its 50th engagement on Wednesday, September 20, with a golden birthday bash. In addition to the usual free skate rental and live entertainment, the no-cover event will feature a birthday cake and champagne toast at midnight, and the first 50 guests will receive a commemorative t-shirt and hat. The party starts at 10 p.m., and skaters are encouraged to wear gold.
