Outlaws Backyard BBQ back with new ownership, menu
September 30, 2009 - 9:00 pm
There's a new chef in town. Outlaws Backyard BBQ, 9500 S. Eastern Ave., in Henderson, which closed its swinging doors in March, has reopened under new ownership. And there's one law it promises not to violate: making food from scratch. It holds true from the barbecue sauce slathering a third of its new menu to the freshly broiled and sliced club-sandwich meat.
"I've been told my whole life that I should open a little place and I always said, 'If I did, I would cook it the same way I do at home,' " says Anne-Marie Tenzer, who revived this strip-mall eatery three months ago, with her husband, Mark, to fill a perceived niche: "I wanted to cater to locals who don't have the option in-between Denny's and a five-star restaurant."
Tenzer reports her most popular item is the hambuger, 20 varieties in all -- each a half-pound patty of 90 percent lean beef dressed in international flavors.
"The Greek you need a fork to eat," Tenzer boasts.
Updating the former establishment's Western outlaw theme are real handcuffs and BB guns (unloaded, Tenzer promises) that reflect more modern mobster and "Pulp Fiction" motifs.
Reservations are required for groups of 10 or more, because the restaurant fits only 40.
