Restaurant takes sports theme seriously

The Sporting House Bar and Grill may be new to the Strip dining scene -- it opened Oct. 10 -- but the concept won't be new to diners.

Located in New York-New York, 3790 Las Vegas Blvd. South, in the same spot where the now-defunct ESPN Zone drew guests with food, sports, video games and sports memorabilia, the Sporting House is exactly what it sounds like: a restaurant where you can watch nearly every televised sporting event while you eat.

Or, if you prefer, a restaurant where you can play sports-themed video games.

"A guest can literally come and watch a football game and then go throw a football upstairs," says Robert Birrell, general manager of the restaurant. "It really enhances the experience, and obviously it's great for kids, as well."

The restaurant has two floors, two bars and more than 130 HDTV screens, including two 16-foot televisions. Upstairs, in the game room, guests can choose from more than 60 interactive video games, including games not found elsewhere, Birrell says. There's the game where players throw real footballs, a basketball game featuring full-sized hoops, car racing games and other options.

The concept is a collaboration between restaurant management Ark Las Vegas and New York-New York. They take the sports part of the theme very seriously, even giving diners a betting kiosk inside the restaurant, Birrell says.

Sports memorabilia is found throughout the restaurant, and a gift shop provides guests with a spot to purchase sports jerseys, hats and other items.

Reservations aren't required but are recommended on big game days. The restaurant is open daily, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
