Colin Farrell stars in ‘Fright Night’

The movie: "Fright Night"

When: Opening Friday at local theaters

Cast: Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, David Tennant, Toni Collette

Director: Craig Gillespie

The story: When a teenager suspects his new neighbor of being a vampire, he enlists a venerable Las Vegas magician, a self-proclaimed vampire expert, to help vanquish the murderous bloodsucker.

The buzz: This remake of the 1985 favorite may be set in Vegas, but the movie spent only a few days on location here; most scenes were filmed in New Mexico. Tennant, Britain's 10th "Dr. Who," steps into the role of aging vampire hunter Roddy McDowall played in the original. Screenwriter Marti Noxon , meanwhile, brings her own vampire cred to the project; her previous credits include TV's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
