DVDs, CDs and books: June 07, 2011

A look at some of the DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week:

DVDS

"True Grit" (PG-13): Jeff Bridges reunites with "Big Lebowski" creators Joel and Ethan Coen for this witty, gritty Western, stepping into the legendary John Wayne's boots as one-eyed lawman Reuben "Rooster" Cogburn, who helps a determined 14-year-old (newcomer Hailee Steinfeld) track down her father's killer (Josh Brolin) .

Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, meanwhile, "Just Go With It" (PG-13) in a comedy about a plastic surgeon, romancing a much-younger teacher, who enlists his loyal assistant to pose as his soon-to-be-ex-wife. "The Company Men" (R), high-flying Ben Affleck, end-of-the-road Chris Cooper and old-school Tommy Lee Jones, struggle to deal with downsizing in a topical drama . A tropical storm traps a grizzled Aussie explorer (Richard Roxburgh) and a daredevil American financier (Ioan Gruffudd) in the cave-diving adventure "Sanctum" (R). And director Mike Leigh ("Secrets and Lies," "Vera Drake") scores again with "Another Year" (PG-13), a touching slice of life about a happily married couple (Jim Broadbent, Ruth Sheen) -- and the unhappy loners (Lesley Manville, David Bradley) they befriend.

Several standout titles arrive on Blu-ray Disc, from Clint Eastwood's "The Outlaw Josey Wales" (PG) to the Carradine and Quaid brothers in "The Long Riders" (R), Sean Connery and Michael Caine in "The Man Who Would Be King" (PG), Peter O'Toole in "The Stunt Man" (R), Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster in "Vera Cruz" (not rated), Liza Minnelli and Robert De Niro in Martin Scorsese's "New York New York" (PG) and Guy Pearce, Terence Stamp and Hugo Weaving in "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" (R). Leading the Blu-ray 3-D crop: "Cirque du Soleil: Journey of Man" (G).

Among today's TV transfers (all unrated unless otherwise noted): "The Big C: The Complete First Season," "Pretty Little Liars: The Complete First Season," "The Gene Autry Show: The Complete First Season," "White Collar: The Complete Second Season," "Hawthorne: The Complete Second Season," "Breaking Bad: The Complete Third Season," "Leverage: The Third Season," "McMillan & Wife: Season Three," "Burn Notice: Season Four," "Rawhide: Season Four, Vol. One," and "Secret Life of the American Teenager: Volume Six" (G).

CDS

Morbid Angel, "Illud Divinum Insanus": It's been 16 years since death metal pioneers Morbid Angel released an album with original frontman David Vincent at the helm, growling like a pissed-off Orc. Vincent's back, conjuring up some serious fire and brimstone, on "Illud Divinum Insanus," an album that incorporates heavy electronics with the band's signature, equally swarming and haunting assault.

This disc likely will divide fans, but then again, Morbid Angel has made a career out of polarizing everyone and everything.

In Laurell K. Hamilton's latest installment, "Hit List," vampire hunter Anita Blake becomes the target of paranormal assassins.
