Latest DVDs, CDs, books: Feb. 21

A look at some of the DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week.

DVDS

"Tower Heist" (PG-13): After a Bernard Madoff-like financial titan (Alan Alda) makes off with their pensions, disgruntled victims (led by Ben Stiller) plot revenge with help from a streetwise crook (Eddie Murphy) in an amusing economic-meltdown comedy.

Elsewhere : the Oscar-nominated, animated "Puss in Boots" (PG), a fractured fairy tale featuring "Shrek's" feline swashbuckler (voiced by Antonio Banderas); Leonardo DiCaprio in "J. Edgar" (R), director Clint Eastwood's ambitious biography of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover; Martin Sheen in "The Way" (PG-13), about an American doctor's journey to recover the body of his estranged son, who perished on a trek from France to Spain; "Martha Marcy May Marlene" (R), a Sundance award winner about a young woman (Elizabeth Olsen) trying to reclaim a normal life after fleeing a cult; and "The Mighty Macs" (G), a fact-based tale about a newlywed coach (Carla Gugino) who transforms a tiny, all-girls Catholic college's basketball team into a Cinderella squad.

Leading today's TV-to-DVD lineup (all titles unrated): the PBS documentaries "Slavery by Another Name" (based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book) and "American Experience: Clinton," plus "Hazel: The Complete Second Season," "Nurse Jackie: Season Three," "Matlock: The Seventh Season," "Weeds: Season Seven," and "Underdog: The Complete Series."

CDS

Sleigh Bells, "Reign of Terror": Their full-length debut, "Treats," was one of the most deafening releases of 2010, a mix of baby doll vocals, tectonic beats and guitars that blared with the force of a freight train rumbling by.

And now noise pop duo Sleigh Bells have returned with their sophomore effort, the aptly titled "Reign of Terror."

"It sounds really huge," singer Alexis Krauss said of the record in an interview with Rolling Stone. "There's going to still be tons of volume."

And even more throbbing eardrums, no doubt.

"Celebrity in Death" by J.D. Robb: Lt. Eve Dallas goes from party guest to murder investigator after an actress starring in a film about one of Eve's cases winds up dead following a celebration of the movie.

In another series continuation, witch-turned-demon Rachel Morgan investigates Cincinnati ritual killings in "A Perfect Blood" by Kim Harrison.
