Ryan Reynolds stars in ‘Green Lantern’

The movie: "Green Lantern"

When: Opening Friday at local theaters

Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong

Director: Martin Campbell

The story: A mystical green ring with otherworldly powers transforms test pilot Hal Jordan into the title superhero, who's part of an intergalactic peacekeeping squadron.

The buzz: Playing Green Lantern completes a comic-book trifecta for Reynolds, following roles as Hannibal King in 2004's "Blade: Trinity" and as Wade Wilson in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," a character he's scheduled to reprise in the upcoming "Deadpool." And director Martin Campbell has plenty of experience directing legendary characters; his credits include Antonio Banderas' two "Zorro" forays and a pair of James Bond adventures, including Daniel Craig's smashing 007 debut, "Casino Royale."
