The List: Latest DVDs, CDs, books, January 8

A look at some of the DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week:

DVDs

"Frankenweenie" (PG): Devastated by the death of his dog, young Victor (voiced by Charlie Tahan) harnesses the power of science to bring him back to life in this stop-motion animated tale from Tim Burton.

Elsewhere, Karl Urban serves as judge, jury and executioner in Mega City One, the metropolis that makes up most of the East Coast of the irradiated wasteland known as America, in "Dredd" (R). A newly divorced mom (Elisabeth Shue) and her daughter (Jennifer Lawrence) move into their dream home, only to find something very wrong with the neighborhood, in "House at the End of the Street" (PG-13). And a former getaway driver (writer-director Dax Shepard) leaves the Witness Protection Program to drive his girlfriend (Kristen Bell) to her dream job in L.A. in "Hit & Run" (R).

Topping today's TV transfers: the made-for-TV movies "Game Change" and "Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama bin Laden," along with "Smash: Season One," "Archer: Season Three," "Dallas: The Complete First Season," "An Idiot Abroad: Season Two," "The Hour: Season Two," "Enlightened: The Complete First Season," "Anger Management," "Episodes: Seasons One and Two" and "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century: Season Two."

CDs

Dropkick Murphys, "SIGNED and SEALED in BLOOD": It's time for some bagpipes and bloody knuckles once again: Boston's Dropkick Murphys are back with a new record.

Spiking Irish music influences with hard-charging punk vigor, the Murphys one-up the Pogues in terms of blending Celtic music with rock 'n' roll fury.

And with their beloved Red Sox having had such a crappy season last year, expect them to be doubly fierce and fuming.

Anselmo & The Illegals and Warbeast, "War of the Gargantuas"; Black Veil Brides, "Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones"; Broadcast, "Berberian Sound Studio"; Hollywood Undead, "Notes from the Underground"; The Living Sisters, "Run for Cover"; Joe Lovano, "Cross Culture"; Solange, "True"; and Various Artists, "Girls Volume 1: Music from the HBO Original Series."
