Our top 5 picks for what to see and do Friday at Life is Beautiful

The festival gates will open at 2 p.m. Friday for 2016’s Life is Beautiful.

The lineup boasts an abundant variety of musical acts, art displays, speakers, and eateries. You probably won’t be able to see and do it all, so make sure you at least get to the highlights.

What to watch

The festival’s headliner Mumford & Sons take the stage Friday night. Popular for their songs, “I Will Wait” and “The Cave,” you can catch them at 11 p.m. at the Downtown Stage.

Get to the Downtown Stage by 9:05 p.m. and see the much-anticipated The Shins’ performance. The Shins are currently touring for the first time in three years. And even though The Shins’ frontman took to the Life is Beautiful stage with his side project, Broken Bells, in 2014, this will be The Shins’ only U.S. performance for this year.

Where to eat

Grab a late lunch at the Buldogis Gourmet Hot Dogs food truck parked on Stewart Avenue near 7th Avenue by ROA’s mural. We recommend the Banh Mi Dog, a hot dog layered with Vietnamese-inspired slaw and a slice of pork belly.

What to look at

Cirque du Soleil returns to Life is Beautiful this year with immersive and interactive street performances. According to Life is Beautiful, performers from seven of Cirque’s Las Vegas shows will perform at the intersection of Ogden Avenue and Eighth Street at 4:30, 5:30, 6:30, 7:30, 8:30 and 9 p.m.

What to drink

Festivalgoers will have access to about 25 signature cocktails this year. While it’s still warm out, cool down with The Rum in the Coconut. It’s a Bacardi Coconut Rum and fresh coconut water cocktail inside an actual coconut. And when you need an extra jolt around midnight, grab a Red Bull-based Purple Drink. The frozen cocktail features Milagro Silver Tequila, Elderflower Liqueur, lemon juice, pomegranate and blueberry.
