Sarah Jessica Parker to star in new HBO series ‘Divorce’

LOS ANGELES — It’s official. “Sex and the City” star Sarah Jessica Parker is returning to HBO for another New York romantic comedy.

Parker’s is set to executive produce and star in “Divorce,” which HBO ordered to series Thursday, Variety has confirmed.

The half-hour comedy tells the story of a very, very drawn-out divorce. Parker will play one half of the divorced couple, Frances, a woman who suddenly reassesses her life and marriage to Robert (played by Thomas Haden Church), and realizes that a fresh start is much harder than she thought.

Molly Shannon and Talia Balsam play Parker’s girlfriends.

Sharon Horgan created the series and will serve as writer and executive producer, along with Parker, Paul Simms, Alison Benson and Aaron Kaplan. Jesse Peretz directed the pilot.

Deadline first confirmed the series order. “Divorce” is set to shoot in New York this year.
