Soulive celebrates opening of Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas
Soulive tends to spell things out for you, their very name testifying to their sound.
They even helpfully titled their first record “Get Down!” (and yes, the exclamation point is very apropos).
But the one thing the funk/jazz three-piece doesn’t telegraph is the direction of their organ-based jams, which are as fluid as the sweat conjured by the trio’s heated playing.
Beginning in 2010, Soulive has held an annual two-week residency at the original Brooklyn Bowl, performing as Bowlive with such powerhouse guest players as John Scofield, Karl Denson, Robert Randolph and others.
This year, Bowlive comes to town to celebrate the opening of Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas, bringing New Orleans bass great George Porter Jr. and Nigel Hall and the Shady Horns along with them.
