99 Words About … The fall season’s early starters

The fall season starts Sept. 21 (for a complete rundown, see that day’s Life section), but two dramedies debut Wednesday hoping to stand out.

They do, for wildly different reasons.

“Red Band Society” (9 p.m. KVVU-TV, Channel 5) follows six young hospital patients and feels like early episodes of “Glee” without the music. It’s one of fall’s best, although that’s some mighty faint praise.

“The Mysteries of Laura” (10 p.m. KSNV-TV, Channel 3), meanwhile, stars Debra Messing as a mother AND a detective.

Wacky!

Pee, poop and puke jokes ensue.

It isn’t the worst new series, but it’s close.
