‘Star Trek’ beaming in for July 31 convention at Rio

Grab some fresh glue for your rubber Vulcan ears, get your Tribbles out of storage and prepare to boldly go where you’ve gone several times before.

The Official “Star Trek” Convention is returning July 31-Aug. 3 to the Rio, 3700 W. Flamingo Road.

The annual gathering is highlighted by four captains: William Shatner, Scott Bakula, Avery Brooks and Kate Mulgrew.

Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols will represent the original series, while “The Next Generation” will be out in force with appearances by Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden and Marina Sirtis.

Technically, a fifth captain will be in attendance: Bruce Greenwood, along with Karl Urban and Peter Weller, will represent the rebooted movie franchise.

They’re all among the more than 100 members of the “Star Trek” family who’ll be appearing throughout the festival.

Other highlights include two panels presented by NASA; “Salute to the Music of ‘Star Trek,’ ” performed by members of the Nevada Pops; a whole day of cosplay; and an onstage demonstration in which makeup designer Michael Westmore will transform Terry Farrell into her “Deep Space Nine” character, Dax.

Single day general admission tickets are $35 for July 31 and Aug. 1 and $40 for Aug. 2-3. A general admission four-day pass is $149.
