One person was killed and a teen driver was hurt after a crash Thursday morning in the western Las Vegas Valley, the fifth fatality in the region within 24 hours.

The crash occurred at 5:40 a.m. in the intersection of South Buffalo Drive and West Desert Inn Road, according to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jeff Dean.

A stolen 2018 Hyundai Elantra was southbound on Buffalo, approaching a red traffic signal at a high rate of speed, police said in a Thursday afternoon news release. A 2018 Toyota RAV 4 eastbound on Desert Inn Road entered the intersection on a green signal. A collision occurred when the Toyota crossed the path of the speeding Hyundai.

Emergency responders transported all parties to University Medical Center.

The 50-year-old woman driving the Toyota died from her injuries.

The Hyundai driver, listed as a 14-year-old juvenile, was admitted for treatment. A passenger in the Hyundai was treated and released.

The death was the 135th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for the year 2024.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the identity of the dead.

Motorcyclist dies

A motorcyclist was killed in a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Meade Avenue and Sheridan Street.

The crash occurred about 6 a.m. near the intersection of Meade Avenue and Sheridan Street, in the area of South Valley View Boulevard and Pennwood Avenue, according to a Metropolitan Police Department release.

Investigators say a 2011 Hyundai Elantra was westbound on Meade, set to make a left turn into a private drive. A 2019 Honda CRF1000 was eastbound on Meade west of Sheridan in the single eastbound travel lane.

The crash occurred when the Hyundai crossed into the path of the Honda. The front of the Honda struck the front left of the Hyundai, resulting in major damage to both vehicles.

The motorcyclist, a 33-year-old Las Vegas man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Hyundai suffered minor injuries, remained at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment.

Pedestrian hit by truck

A woman was struck and killed by a semi-truck at about 8:45 a.m. near East Cheyenne Avenue and North Pecos Road in North Las Vegas.

The female pedestrian, who was believed to be in her 40s, died at the scene, police said in a news release.

The driver of the semi-truck remained on scene and did not show any signs of impairment, police said.

A preliminary investigation said the woman was walking southbound on Pecos Road with a green light, crossing Cheyenne Avenue on the west side of the intersection. The woman dropped some of her belongings in front of the semi-truck. As she was picking up her belongings, a traffic light cycle occurred and the light for eastbound traffic on Cheyenne Avenue turned green. Moments later the pedestrian was struck by the semi-truck, police said.

Pedestrian, 92, killed

A 92-year-old man walking outside a crosswalk at about 3:50 p.m. was struck and killed at West Desert Inn and South Fort Apache roads.

The unidentified pedestrian was taken to University Medical Center where he later died. The driver of the vehicle showed no signs of impairment, police said.

Police said a “2010 Ford F-150 was traveling east on Desert Inn Road, approaching Fort Apache Road in the middle travel lane. The right travel lane on Desert Inn Road was closed and marked by a traffic control signal board and cones.

A pedestrian was crossing over Desert Inn Road, west of Fort Apache Road, from north to south, outside a marked or implied crosswalk.
