Beware of scams

To ensure your charitable donations go to the right place, remember these tips from the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Nevada:

Obtain detailed information about the charity, including name, address and telephone number, and conduct online searches with the charity’s name in conjunction with “complaint” or “scam.”

If a charity claims to benefit a local agency, check that the agency has a relationship with the charity.

Be wary of solicitations from professional fundraisers. If they claim to represent a charity, contact the charity directly to verify. It is safest to make donations by check or credit card directly to the charity.

Ask for a receipt showing the amount of your donation.
