NV Energy: Mylar balloon caused Las Vegas power outage

NV Energy says a metallic Mylar balloon sparked an electricity substation power outage that affected about 13,000 customers for about an hour west of the Las Vegas Strip.

An NV Energy spokeswoman says homes, stores and businesses in an area around Flamingo Road and Decatur Boulevard were left without power from about 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday.

A Nevada state Department of Motor Vehicles spokesman says one DMV office in Las Vegas was also affected.
