Officer involved in shooting identified

Las Vegas police on Friday released the name of an officer who fired a gunshot at a man in a car on Jan. 12.

Sgt. Darrin Densley, who has been with the department since September 1988, is assigned to the South Central Area Command.

Police said Densley, 44, was conducting police activities near the 3700 block of Swenson Street when he encountered a man who entered the driver's seat of a parked vehicle.

Densley fired one shot at the man, who was not identified, while interacting with the person, police said. The round struck the door of the vehicle and the man was not injured.

The man was cited for obstructing a police officer and released at the scene. Police did not release further details.

Densley has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.

Department policy is to release the name of an officer involved in a shooting 48 hours after the incident. An oversight prevented the name from being released until Friday, police said.
