Opening statements expected in trial of man accused of killing Strip dancer

Opening statements are expected Thursday in a murder trial that shocked the Las Vegas performance community and garnered national attention. Jason “Blu” Griffith is charged with murder in the killing of his on-again, off-again girlfriend Debbie Flores Narvaez, whose strangled and dismembered body was found cemented in tubs in an empty downtown Las Vegas home in January 2011.

Task force says staffers not using tools to fight school bullying

Clark County Schools and the state have sufficient requirements in place to investigate, report and discipline bullies, but school workers need to better follow them, a special school district task force on bullying said Wednesday.

The Henderson City Council unanimously approved nearly $2.02 million in city fee increases and cost savings Tuesday to help bridge a large budget shortfall. The Council approved cutting back some parks and recreation services, including decreasing hours at the Heritage Park Senior Facility and other recreation centers, eliminating a weekend food program at senior centers and increasing some fees.

Clark County Commission revises distribution of medical marijuana licenses

Clark County commissioners voted to change the way medical marijuana licenses are divvied up in a unanimous vote that took from Henderson and North Las Vegas, gave big to the county and contributed a slight bump to the city of Las Vegas. In a move by Commissioners Steve Sisolak and Chris Giunchigliani, the number of medical marijuana licenses was revised based on population.
