Pedestrian dies after being struck by car in Las Vegas

Updated September 5, 2020 - 7:59 am

A 62-year-old woman died Friday night after she was struck by a car in northwest Las Vegas, police said.

Las Vegas police were called about 7:40 p.m. to the scene of the crash near the North Torrey Pines Drive and West Lake Mead Boulevard intersection, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Ken Nogle said. The woman was crossing Lake Mead Boulevard outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a 2017 Kia Sportage being driven by a 25-year-old woman.

The pedestrian was taken to University Medical Center, where she died, Metro said.

The driver remained at the scene and did not show signs of impairment. Police said in a statement that “speed does not appear to be a contributing factor in this collision.”

The woman’s death marked the 64th traffic-related fatality investigated by Metro this year, police said. She will be identified by the Clark County coroner’s office after her family has been notified.
