Assemblyman eyes Reno City Council seat

RENO — Assemblyman David Bobzien is interested in filling the Reno City Council seat being vacated by Mayor-elect Hillary Schieve.

Bobzien said he thinks his legislative experience would be an asset in helping the council to deal with change that will be caused by Tesla’s new $5 billion battery plant east of the city.

He said it’s an exciting time for the city and he would like to be part of it.

The Democrat said he’s not considering the move because Republicans captured control of the Assembly for the first time since 1985. Republicans picked up 10 seats in Tuesday’s elections to gain a 25-17 edge in the lower house.

Bobzien was first elected to the Assembly in 2006 and has served four terms.
